Filming: Piano Scene Take 4?

In addition to what Nilufa said - Monday 20th December 2010 was the afternoon we spent our own time after school sorting out the hall and re-shooting the whole piano section, taking the feedback on board from our poll, we had Jessica's hair down and applied silver/grey make up.

This time as a group we decided to use 2 cameras for extra footage and for a more varied range of shots because we noticed we lacked in extra shots when we looked back at our other piano scenes.

Piano Scene - Take Four!

On Monday 20th December, after school, Tamanna, Shamima and I went down to the Great Hall (poor Sabina couldn't join us as she is still ill) - with permission to use the hall for a good amount of time without any disturbances!

We set the piano up with the lit candles, put the white net up which I had ironed that very morning since it was desperately in need of an ironing, and once Jessica arrived we did her hair and make up.

As stated on a previous blog post, we kept the hair down, natural curls and all; we clipped the frizzy parts down and added a kind of coiffe which looked good, with the glam-ish make up - no black eyeshadow at all! So we escaped the whole panda-eye look!

The filming went well, we got a variety of shots, especially the specific shot we wanted of Jessica lighting a match in the dark - the light illuminating her face worked really nicely because we got the exact effect we wanted. Below is a picture of Cheryl Cole with a lit match from her new music video The Flood, this surprisingly is the effect we were going for!

Hair DOWN!

In my last post I stated that after viewing the recent polls, the votes we gathered showed that the majority of viewers preferred 'hair up', but I have made a mistake because after viewing yesterday's poll I've discovered that the hair was voted to be down. So, we will keep the hair down!

Thames Barrier Filming Progress

According to our plans, we went to Thames Barrier Park as a group with our new storyboard on Tuesday 14th December 2010.
However we altered some clothing ideas such as Jessica wearing the pink top and so on... instead Jessica wore her checkered blue and red shirt which is very trendy and in 'style/fashion' therefore as a group we decided to leave Jessica the way she dressed as it fit in well with the idea and was suitable for our video.
In this shoot she wore, blue denims, tan boots, red and blue checkered shirt, brown leather jacket and a bronze necklace.
With the make up which Me and Nilufa did we stuck with the simple and subtle eye make up with clear glossy lips with the bronze and light brown cheeks. All this to give a natural look.
The hair was totally different to the rest of our styles we have done previously, therefore we chose to have her hair the way it was and did small alters such as using bobby pins to clip her fringes.
Despite it being a very cold weather we had some sort of sun which went really well with the riverside footage, which I as a individual member is very happy with.
From what we have filmed today, we are glad to get everything done in such short time. Now we just have to upload and see the actual footage and decide if its worth putting in our music video, which I'm sure it is :)

Thames Barrier Park

One of our key locations is Thames Barrier Park, and we're going there today to get some good scenery shots, and a bit more footgae of Jessica singing. We've been waiting for the right timing to go there, and today we have enough time to go, plus the weather forecast is looking good - http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/8?&showDay=A

We've also decided on the outfit for today's shooting; blue jeans, plain white t-shirt, a knitted pink cardigna and a pink scarf. We're considering the possibility of a jacket in some of the shots. The make up will be similar to the make up in the bedroom scene, so a lot of neutral tones, and pink cheeks.

Below are the storyboards we've drawn out for today's filming:

New Storyboards!

Today we went to town and re did the storyboard for the piano scene which we're hoping to film this Saturday. We have a new range of varied shots, and are hoping to get a graphic match shot within the music video of the candle, and when Jessica strikes a  match.

Also, following the votes, we are going to keep Jessica's hair up in a bun, but there will be some alterations to the make up; we're going to use less black on the eyes since it gives off a slightly panda eyed look, and instead will use more grey and silver.

Magazine Advert 3

Here is another magazine advert I was playing around with on Photoshop, It took me 3 hours doing this as I was playing around with airbrushing the skin, adding fake lashes, changing eye colour from dark brown to blue, softening the lips etc. I made these changes to make the image more strong and appealing.
I then added the background... the reason why I chose this paticular background is because it associates really well with POP! :) I think it really goes well.
With the whole spotlight I took that on board from the previous magazine.

Version 2 Magazine Album Advert

Here is another Magazine Album Advert Nilufa created during the Photoshop project today.
I helped her out with selecting the editting of the background and did a quick play around with it and came to a result we are not too happy about, however it is considered as working progress.
Nilufa's feedback was the background Green was too appealing and was highly attrackting which I agree,  therefore I have decided to work on the advert from home... and later on this week I will show them what I have produced and get their feedback as a group.
Overall I think the image is very 'Pop' and so far I like the flow of the advert just needs some change with colour...etc.

Magazine 2 :)

Showing the advert to the audience, they found the magazine appealing and a 'eye catch' which was a positive note. So therefore I worked with the magazine from home and produced a completed version of the magazine.

Magazine Album Advert

Here is another working progress Magazine Album advert I did for the group, I used the same information as before however just used better edit skills and adding more texture and different font and position of the text.
I consider this as working progress as I will be getting feedbacks from my group on how I can improve this.

Learning to use Photoshop

Wednesday 8th December, We had a Photoshop expert, name Jude who came in for the whole day and taught us how to use photoshop to create our Magazine album advert and design our digipak.
Through out the whole day, we recieved tutorials from Jude and taught us the basics. We began the lesson by messing around with the tools and eventually began thinking and creating our Magazine album advert...
Using primary source image, non secondary source image what so ever.
In our group we did a individual Magazine album advert however with the technical editting myself (Tamanna) helped them out and supported them all the way. We chose our images to work  on. We began to edit the background, cut out images, using the bright and contrast tools... etc.

By the end of the day, we had to rough Magazine album advert.
This is the one Shamima did with the help of Nilufa.... Please remember everything is original (primary source) and not copied from the internet... also bare in mind this is not the final product.
Thanks

magazine adverts

Today we looked at magazine adverts. We looked at five different ones and decided what we wanted to take from it. We also put them into different genre groups. the first one we looked at was called 'warpaint'. From this magazine advert we could see that it fitted into the retro genre. We decided this because of the colours that were used; mainly red with blue and green. These colours were used for the album cover. This meets the generic conventions of a retro CD cover, which would normally have bright colours. In addition on the CD cover we think there is a picture of a skull, this picture is mainly red. Because of all the bright colours you can hardly see the name 'warpaint'. However in the magazine advert there's a picture of all the singers against a red background and all the actresses are wearing black apart from one, who is wearing a bright pink dress; this tells us that she is the main singer because she stands out from the rest. Also we see the main singer sitting on top of a prop. From this magazine advert we would like to use some ideas like having our actress on a wall paper background and have her on a prop for example the piano.

The second one that we looked at was called 'manic street preachers', from this magazine advert we could see a man who is topless holding a camera. This fits in with the generic convention, because the song is called 'postcard from a young man'; he is holding a camera and there's a picture coming out these pictures are mainly used as postcards. the magazine advert is black and white, to show that he is alone and as he is holding the camera it looks like he is taking a picture of us; the audience. the one thing that stands out in this magazine advert is the camera and the topless man. this would attract mostly women, because there is a man topless and the idea of a postcard being sent from a young man would appeal to women. the ideas we hope to take from this are the black and white effect and have the idea to look at the audience, this will show that the actress is interacting with the audience.

The next advert we looked at was called hearts and minds. This magazine advert is very interesting, because the words are designed with parts of trees, feathers and leaves. The colours that are used are purple and silver. From the magazine advert we can tell that it is a solo artist, we can relate to this because  our artist is a solo artist as well. The thing that stood out to us was the wording and one thing that we would like to use is the information layout and the band website.

The fourth one we looked was called the 'glare'. On the magazine it's got pictures of two men with half of their faces, they both are wearing glasses and there is a contrast between the men and the use of colour; one man is black and the other is white and the magazine advert is black and white. The things that stood out to us was the black and white affect and the fact that they are staring at us; it goes with the name also the amount of lighting used on their faces. The one that we would like to use is the good lighting which is used in this magazine advert.

The last magazine advert that we looked at was called 'bingo'. In this advert we can see a long shot of a man chucking a char at another man. The man that he is chucking it at is quite modern, because it's like he has a magnetic field and because of this field he is covered in all different shapes and sizes of balls. This magazine advert is very colourfull, the things that stand out to us are the colourfull balls and when it is in stores. The thing that we would like to use is the pre in formation and when it is in stores.

Magazine Advert - Tamanna

In todays lesson, we looked at magazine's adverts containing conventions.
The conventions found in a magazine advert are, Images, Websites and Bonus materials.
During this, I have learnt that majority of magazine advert have some sort of performance image e.g playing the electronic guitar which signifies to the audience what the type of genre it is.
The image found on the front of the CD cover, is either a long shot or an close up shot.
The two CD covers which I looked at Steve Winwood and Suzanne Vega, both the artists have edited their image to black and white which looks appealing as the image stands out more.
Also the shot and angle of the image makes the image appealing to look at as Steve Winwood, on his CD cover he is looking straight at the camera, this on the cover looks as if he has eye contact with the audience.
From the above, the element I will be taking on board for my own magazine advert is think about the  different level of shots and use my editing techniques to make the image attracting.
The font style varies on different style of genre, however most of the time the font size of the album/title are BIG as it attract the audiences attention.
I have recognized that Debut albums only have the artists name in BIG and have no album name. This helps the artist to be recognized by the name as it is a Debut album.
Doing a Debut album for my artist, has made me think about my own magazine advert and how I should have the artist name in BIG.

The advert also contain star ratings, which are made from well known companies such as 'The Guardian' etc.
They also have websites to view about the artist and for the fans or where you can purchase the CD.
A few magazine adverts has an Amazon logo which supports the artist.
The advert also contains the release date of the CD, some CD contains tour dates or live shows information.

Album adverts in magazines

Today, we looked at several cut outs of artists and their album releases in magazines. By observing the pictures, the cover and all the text that accompanied the advert we were able to draw some ideas from the ads that we may possibly choose to use in our magazine advert.

We focused on how the album art on the cover could represent the genre, what the pictures would mean to the audience, how significant the text was and why; because the information is what potential consumers would read, for instance the advert for the Manic Street Preachers had a whole listing of reviews and ratings down the whole left side - this helps give the audience an idea of what they need to know - if the reviews are good they'll consider buying it, if the reviews aren't then there's a bigger chance that they won't purchase it. The album cover below is an example of the ext being formatted around the whole image.

For each of the cut outs we concentrated on what stood out to us the most, so the album art on the cover of the Warpaint's CD stood out to me because I wouldn't have associated that sort of album imagery with a female group, not in a stereotypical way, just that the photo of the four women doesn't really match the album cover with the red and blue/green skull. However, on a closer inspection, the red of the skull is significant to the image of the artists because they are against a red background, also there is a wooden prop in the photo (which is some kind of a seat they're all seated around) that has red graffiti on it. So, there are links that correlate, and from this particular cover we've considered having the actress against coloured wallpaper (just a suggestion) or even having her on a prop, possibly the piano.

Some other suggestions and ideas that we took from these adverts was the possibility of having either a lot or a little amount of text since it is the debut album. Some adverts had a lot of the text listed either on just one side of the ad or under the album image or even on it; but we'll be considering having her image as the main attraction plus her name because we want people to notice the name rather than trying to remember the name of the album. Lastly, a lot of vital information that we will take from what we've seen on these covers are; the release dates of the album, where the CD is available (Amazon), live tour dates, sponsors, reviews and ratings, etc. These are all factors that we must consider and include in the advert.

Magazine adverts - Album (Shamima)

Today we looked at some adverts of albums in magazines. Typically the magazine adverts had an image of some sort, whether it was an image of the artist themself or of an object. Also some of the adverts that we looked at had tour dates and dates of when the CD is coming out. Some had links or their own websites. The most common feature that was evident in the adverts were the reviews and ratings the CD had.

We would be taking some elements of the adverts that we had seen, for example there was this one advert that had the artists name in a font that was bigger than the albums name: Steve Winwood.
In a couple of other adverts we had seen, has had some smaller snapshots of the artist as well as a bigger picture of the artist. This I think would be effective to use in our advert, also because we talked about it before and wanted some element of a collage or snapshots. (This was seen in the advert by Weller and Steve Winwood)
The advert by Suzanne Vega had a picture of her (medium shot) with her guitar, which had a shallow focus blur. We had a similar idea of having our actress with her preferred instrument (piano), but with her having eye contact with the audience. This was also seen in Steve Winwoods advert as he was having eye contact with us.
